Nov. 20, 2024 - On October 30th we had a special meeting of the Board of Education where Susan Wollin and Ken Mitchell from School Leadership presented their recommendations for the Superintendent specifications.  In other words, who we, as a community are looking for in our next superintendent.   

These specifications were discussed and adopted by the Board and can be found under the search requirements tab.  The meeting  and power point presentation can be found on the search home page. 

These specifications were created after School Leadership conducted multiple focus groups and received over 400 survey responses from the community.  The power point presentation which describes the feedback received can also be found on the website.  The survey and focus groups became the foundation for drafting the proposed Somers Superintendent position specifications.   Once we adopted the specifications, this ended the public community input and we are now in the recruitment phase of the process.  As we have discussed in the past, in order to get the best quality candidates to come forward we have agreed to keep this a closed and confidential process.  Meaning, the candidates will be kept confidential and only be interviewed by the Board, keeping in mind that we take with us all of the information gathered from the community into the interviews. 

The position is currently being advertised and our recruiters are also actively seeking candidates that fit the profile we created.  We will continue to give updates on the application process and expect to conduct interviews around the end of January. 

The Board cannot thank everyone enough for providing your input and your time to assist in this very important job of finding our next school superintendent. 

Nov. 1, 2024 - School Leadership consultants met with a variety of community and staff groups and individuals to solicit their input on the specifications the Board should use in its search.  These opportunities included two open community town hall meetings on October 16^th and 17^th, along with in-person meetings with staff and faculty on October 17^th.

After gathering information from the Somers community and all SCSD stakeholders including parents, students, faculty and staff, the consultants presented the information and their recommendations for the search specifications with the Board of Education at a public meeting on October 30^th.
