Somers Presents Live K-12 Art Show April 21, 2022
Glossy ceramic pieces. Texturized mixed media. Pastels. Watercolors. Photography. Self-portraits. The Somers Central School District’s Annual Festival of the Arts returns this year to an in-person show at Somers High School on April 21.
The 22nd annual event will be live, and the halls of Somers High School will showcase the work of our students in kindergarten through grade 12. The free event is open to the public from 7 – 9 p.m.
“The Arts Department is excited to have the students’ artwork on display for the public after two years in a virtual format,” said Angela Holder, Somers K-12 Fine and Applied Arts Department Leader. “This event showcases the various works of art from K through 12 at one time. Our art students are very excited to display their artwork in person this year.”
Holder said the assortment of pieces give attendees a chance to see the art curriculum in action. “There will be a wide range of projects these young artists complete while moving through the Somers Arts program. It's a great representation of all levels of art from each school,” she said.
Artwork by students will dot the common areas on the first floor of Somers High School including the halls, the Library Media Center and the old cafeteria. There will also be a designated section to exhibit the work of seniors, as well as a look at the student projects from upper-level IB arts courses. Amy Magaletti, the District Art Show Coordinator, is busy coordinating with art teachers in all four buildings and getting all of the spaces ready for display.
Prior to this public event, the Somers High School’s National Art Honor Society will host an induction ceremony for new inductees at 6:30 p.m. in the library.
