Somers High School Receives Prestigious Blue Ribbon Award
On November 8, Somers High School Principal Mark Bayer and Somers High School Art Department leader Angela Holder traveled to Washington, D.C. to accept the Blue Ribbon Award from the Department of Education. The distinction as an Exemplary High Performing School is one of the most prestigious awards in education.
“The Blue Ribbon award is recognition of the value we place on student achievement and ensuring that all students can find success,” says Somers High School Principal Mark Bayer. “It’s not just about our top kids performing well, it’s about the majority of our students realizing their potential and reaching their academic goals. “
One of only 19 public schools in New York nominated for the award, the high school was required to submit detailed information on demographics, test scores, available programs, curriculum, leadership, and how schools engage families.
