Talent Show Friday Promises Entertainment from Across District

The districtwide talent show at Somers High School on Friday, Jan. 24, promises an eclectic evening featuring rock, light jazz, ballet and a demonstration of karate – with handheld fans.

“The talent show is a wonderful way to bring our schools and our community together,” said Alyssa Spiconardi, one of two advisors to the Class of 2026, along with Lauren DeFrancesco. This will be the second annual talent show run by the junior class as a fundraiser for next year’s prom and other senior-year activities.
Emceed by Somers High School Student Council President Jimmy Gallivan, the show begins 5:30 p.m. in the Somers High School auditorium. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students (cash only, at the door).
Here are the acts, youngest to oldest, who attended a rehearsal Tuesday:

Lucy Edmiston, a second grader at Primrose Elementary School, will dance ballet to Debussy’s Clair De Lune. She enjoys ballet, she said, because “I like the moves, and the style.”

Sean Edmiston, a fourth grader at Somers Intermediate School, will play a lively original piano piece called “Tornado.” He called it that because “It’s loud and it’s crazy,” and he could imagine it as the background music to a cartoon of a tornado.

Luke and Owen Genett will play rock songs such as AC/DC’s Back in Black. Luke, sixth grade, plays his V-shaped guitar, accompanied by his brother on drums. Owen Gennett, a fourth grader, knew he wanted to play the talent show when he saw his brother perform in it last year.

Mehr Sikriwal, a sixth grader at Somers Middle School, will present a karate demonstration with folding hand fans. She began learning karate 4.5 years ago, inspired by her older brother. She enjoys it, she said, because, “I get to learn self-defense.”

Jason Graessle, a freshman at Somers High School, will play an original light jazz piece, “Canyons” from an upcoming album he is producing. Greassle has already made inroads into performing, and is known on Spotify as Jace James.

Regina Ayoubi, a junior at the high school, and board member of the talent show, will perform the Benson Boone song “In the Stars,” singing and playing piano. “It’s a really emotional song,” said Ayoubi, whose video performances entertain her 21,000 Instagram followers.
