First-Ever Homecoming Bash a Huge Success
Food Trucks, games, inflatables, and so much fun!
“This was a new, exciting event for us,” said Student Life Coordinator Brenda O’Shea. “We wanted the community to come out and enjoy it.”
Tuskers of all grades were invited to take part in the first-ever Homecoming Bash hosted by the Somers High School (SHS) student council and sponsored in part by Partners in Prevention.
“Last year, we had community requests to make our homecoming event for the whole community. Running this event answers that need,” said Brenda.
The Homecoming Bash took place on Thursday, September 19 on the front lawn of SHS and kicked off the start of Homecoming Week, which is full of spirit days and sporting events.
“I love the homecoming dance but it’s typically not as popular now. So, we brainstormed something new. I’m super excited about it,” said Julia Schmidberger, a senior and student council publicity officer.
From 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., students and families enjoyed inflatable games such as basketball, axe throwing, and T-ball, as well as traditional lawn games like bean bag toss. There was also DJ music, a giant inflatable slide, and a photo booth for students to pose for pictures with friends and family.
“I think homecoming is such a big town thing. To kick off that week, and to honor homecoming for the whole town, we wanted to bring it to the entire community in a new way,” Julia added.
To keep the celebration going, food trucks were on site, offering wood-fired pizza, barbequed meats, and ice cream treats. The student council sold drinks and candy confections at a concession table.
“We loved having members of the community at the high school!” said Brenda, reflecting on the event. “It was great to have so many of our athletes attend as well. We feel very lucky that Somers Partners in Prevention sponsored the DJ and Photo Booths. They really added to our event.”
