Creative Review with Chalk Monsters

Sixth-grade students at Somers Middle School completed a unit about major body parts in a recent Spanish class by creating chalk monsters.

“The objective was to stay in their target language the whole time,” Mr. Drebycz said. “They had to be as specific as possible so they could give directions for an entire monster.”

Students were on hand to share their expertise about a variety of subjects at the recent Expert Fair at Primrose Elementary Schools.

“I’m an expert at Bob Marley,” Evan said. “He’s a good singer.”

Motivated students plus hard work equals a winning equation when it comes to the Math Olympiad.

“The tests are designed to get progressively harder,” said SMS student Leo. “At the end of the year, we add up our scores and we can earn awards and recognition for how we did.”

Building Community with Empathy and Understanding

For the second year in a row, freshman students at Somers High School (SHS) were visited by the JCK Foundation to further mental health awareness.

“I think this was a beneficial presentation and conversation to have to normalize talking about mental health," said Kate Barton, a student at SHS.
