Welcome to First Grade!

  • Dear First Grade Families,

Welcome to First Grade!  This school year will be unlike any other.  Whether we are in person or remote, this year will be filled with learning, fun and growth.  We are very excited to get to know your child and work with your family to ensure a successful and memorable school year.  Your child is going to be in a class with two teachers, Mrs. Sam Berg and Ms. Julianna Hatjygeorge and our amazing teaching assistant, Mrs. Valerie Maratto.  As a trio, we are excited to provide a safe and caring environment for your child this year, no matter what is ahead of us.

    Message from Ms. Hatjygeorge

I am excited to be entering my second year at Primrose!  My first year was definitely a memorable freshman experience! I am so excited to be back and meeting a new group of students.  Last year proved to be a challenge when we went to remote learning.  But with my experience in public and private schools in NYC and Westchester prior to working at Primrose, I was ready for the challenges in front of me.  I am excited to move forward in building digital literacy into our everyday education in order to prepare your child for the future and teach them best practices in using technology as a tool in education.  This summer, I enjoyed spending time with my family in Long Island and getting to the beach as often as I could.  In my free time, I love to bake and cook! Mrs. Berg, Mrs. Maratto and myself built a wonderful bond last year working together.  I could not be more excited to work with them again this year in our classroom!

    Message from Mrs. Berg

This will be my 3rd year teaching in the 1st grade ICT program at Primrose School. Last year we certainly navigated some uncharted territories. Luckily Ms. Hatjygeorge and I have similar experience teaching in NYC and we quickly developed a strong partnership. We were able to work together and create quality learning experiences for our students through remote learning. I am excited to continue to use our new digital platform SeeSaw, and ensure that your child is comfortable and confident when using the personal devices at school and at home this school year. I have been exploring many different ways to differentiate curriculum while maintaining social distance, or remotely if needed.  This summer I spent a lot of time with my own children Bennett and Brooks. We went to the beach near our home in CT, explored the Stamford Nature Center, went the Maritime Center in Norwalk, and spent a lot of time swimming in grandma’s pool. It was a wonderful summer with family. I also taught summer school for the extended school year program at Primrose and it was so wonderful to be back with students. I feel so fortunate to be back with such an amazing team. I know Ms. Hatjygeorge, Mrs. Maratto and myself will make sure that we have an amazing year with our students in our classroom.
