Welcome to First Grade!

  • Dear First Grade Families,

Welcome to First Grade! We hope you all have enjoyed your summer and cannot wait to see our new first graders in the building soon. No matter what this year brings us, we ensure that this will be filled with learning, fun and growth. We are very excited to get to know your child and work with your family to ensure a successful and memorable school year. Your child is going to be in an Integrated Co-Teach (ICT) class with two teachers, Mrs. Sam Berg and Ms. Julianna Hatjygeorge and our amazing teaching assistant, Mrs. Valerie Maratto. As a trio, we are excited to provide a safe and caring environment for your child this year, no matter what is ahead of us.

    Message from Ms. Hatjygeorge

I am excited to be entering my third year at Primrose! Even though the past two years  have been unlike anything I have worked through before, my experience in public and private schools in NYC and Westchester prior to working at Primrose had me ready for any challenge in front of me. I am proud of the instruction Mrs. Berg and I have been able  to provide in person and remotely to our students, all while keeping the ICT model. Mrs. Berg and I use the ICT model to help our students in small groups, all while building a strong classroom culture. I am excited to continue in building digital literacy into our everyday education to prepare your child for the future and teach them best practices in using technology as a tool in education. This summer, I enjoyed spending time with my family in Long Island and getting to the beach as often as I could.  In my free time, I love to bake and cook! Mrs. Berg, Mrs. Maratto and I built a wonderful bond with our students last year. I could not be more excited to work with them again this year in our classroom!

    Message from Mrs. Berg

This will be my 4th year teaching in the 1st grade ICT program at Primrose School. The past two years certainly been different than anything I have experienced in my teaching career, but it has pushed Ms. Hatjygeorge and I to adapt our curriculum and teaching methods. I am so proud of the instruction we have been able to provide our students both in the classroom and via zoom.  Luckily Ms. Hatjygeorge and I have similar experience teaching in NYC and we quickly developed a strong partnership.

I am excited to continue to use our digital platform SeeSaw, and we will ensure that your child is comfortable and confident when using their personal devices at school and at home this school year. I have been exploring many different ways to differentiate curriculum while maintaining social distance, or remotely if needed.  This summer I spent a lot of time with my own children Bennett and Brooks. We went to the beach near our home in CT, explored the Stamford Nature Center, went the Maritime Center in Norwalk, and spent a lot of time swimming in grandma’s pool. We also took a family trip to Aruba and had a wonderful time.   It was a wonderful summer with family. I feel so fortunate to be back with such an amazing team. I know Ms. Hatjygeorge, Mrs. Maratto and myself will make sure that we have an amazing year with our students in our classroom.
