• Welcome to Mrs Mackey's Class

    (Formerly Miss. Smith)

    Dear Students and Families,

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! I am very excited to begin this adventure with all of you! I hope everyone has had a fun-filled summer, I know I have. I got married this summer, what an exciting time! I have been spending many days with family and friends at the pool and the beach and in Spain with my new Husband. I cannot wait to hear about the exciting days of your summer!

In August, we will preparing our classroom for all of you to arrive on the first day. We will be there from 10:00-11:00am on Tuesday, August 28th, if any of you would like to visit and say hello. Feel free to bring in your supplies that day from the attached supply list to alleviate the heavy load you would carry on the first few days of school. Please take a moment to read the welcome back letters from your child’s cooperating teachers. The teachers we will be working with will be Mrs. Edwards, Mrs. Stietzel and Mrs Laurie.

We will have snack every morning. Please send a healthy snack with your child every day. Fruit, vegetables, yogurt, cheese, crackers, etc. are among many choices for a snack that will help peak your child’s learning potential! Also, please alert us of ANY food/environmental allergies your child may have. The entire team of providers will be alerted of these allergies and the necessary precautions will be taken.

Among the supplies, I will be designating one of your child’s notebooks as their “communication journal”. The communication journal is used as a way to share any information that would be helpful to all of us. The journal is written in almost every day. It is used to highlight a wonderful event in your child’s day/night, or to alert each other about areas of concern. The journal will journey to and from school in your child’s backpack every day. The teaching assistants and I may read/write in the notebook.

We will also be using class dojo which is an electronic application has direct communication with parents through your cell phone, tablet or computer. If you rather use this form of communication rather than a notebook you may do so. This form of communication has proved very helpful in the success of the children.  This is used in addition to any phone calls or conferences requested. Communication is the very most important tool to ensure a positive experience for the children. Feel free to email me at smackey@somersschools.org

I hope you enjoy the rest of the summer! I look forward to a full year of learning, growing and fun!
