    Dear Kindergarten Family,

It is with great pleasure and anticipation that I welcome you and your child to Kindergarten!  I am looking forward to an exciting and rewarding year.  My focus this year will be to build your child’s self-esteem, social skills, and independence, as well as promote his/her academic abilities.

I hope that you have had a chance to enjoy all that summer has to offer.  I had the pleasure of spending a few weeks, with my family, in a small town in the Thousand Islands.  We relaxed while boating, fishing and swimming in the Saint Lawrence River. My son, Joshua enjoyed tubing and swimming in the river while my other son Matthew, who is now a driver, enjoyed alternating between driving the boat and the car. My husband, Erik and I enjoyed our early morning walks beside the river and afternoon bike rides through the town.  I also relished quiet time with a good book on the front porch. I hope your final weeks of summer bring you memorable times with your family and friends.

Mrs. Donna Peters is my aide and she will be an important person in your child’s life at school.  She will assist me in the classroom most of the day and will accompany the children to lunch and recess.

We would love to meet you and your child before school begins.  We will be in the classroom from 3:15 – 4:00 on Tuesday, September 3rd.  This is a great opportunity for the children to meet their teachers and classmates and explore the classroom.  This opportunity may help your child feel more comfortable on the first day of school.  I look forward to meeting you!

In preparation for our first days your child will need several supplies.  If possible, please bring them with you when you visit on the 3rd or at another convenient time before school starts.  This will save your child from having to carry a heavy load on those first few days!  Please have your child bring a backpack to school each day.  Also, your child will need:

    • 2 plastic two pocket folder (pockets on the bottom)
    • 6 small glue sticks
    • 4 thin dry erase markers (low odor)
    • 24 count Crayola crayons
    • 1 large box of tissues
    • 2 packages of baby wipes
    • Child-size headphones (no earbuds) – labeled with your child’s name and in a labeled gallon size Ziploc bag.

*Only the backpack, folder and headphones need to be labeled with your child’s name.

The children will use one of the plastic two-pocket folders to carry notes and completed work back and forth between school and home.  Place any notes you have for the office or me inside the folder.  Also please check and empty out your child’s folder everyday.

Your child will have snack each morning starting the first day of school.  Please pack a healthy, nourishing snack and drink. I also need to inform you that there are a few children in our class that have severe food allergies to peanuts, tree nuts and sesame seeds.  I am asking for your cooperation because a life threatening allergic reaction can result from either ingestion or contact with the food allergen.  Please do not send your child with a peanut, tree nut or sesame snack or a snack with a nut products.  This would also apply to any special snack that your child would provide for a class activity.  We will begin eating lunch in the cafeteria on the first full day of school which is Monday, September 9th.  Please have your child bring a lunch to school, in a separate bag, for the first few days.  You may provide a lunch containing nuts or products.  The cafeteria provides a more controlled environment because of the use of nut free tables. I appreciate your assistance in creating a classroom environment that is comfortable for all children.

Somers School District is paperless and most notes and notices are posted on the website or sent electronically via email.  Please visit my website to find useful information.  You will find my website when you visit http://www.somersschools.org/primrosees

When you log in at this site you will find Classroom Websites at the middle tool bar (when you are in full screen mode).  You can click on the link to Mrs. Tetro’s class website.  I will be screening Kindergarten students on September 4th, 5thand 6th.  You will find your child’s screening appointment in the Welcome Letters tab on my website.

We will have the Kindergarten Open House on Wednesday, September 4th at 7:00 pm.  This will provide an opportunity to share more information about our classroom and Primrose.

I look forward to meeting and working with you this year.  I know that by working together we will make this a great year for your child.

          Fondly,

     Jennifer Tetro
