     Dear Families,

It’s hard to believe that the summer is almost over…the big day is almost here...the first day of Kindergarten! I hope that you and your family have enjoyed the summer, and are looking forward, as I am, to our upcoming school year together.

My name is Caroline Connaughton, and I will be your child’s Kindergarten teacher this year.  I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to share this year with you and your child!  Together, we will help your child grow in many different ways.  We have a fabulous teaching assistant who will be an important part of your child’s year, as well.

Starting school can often be a big transition for children.  I understand that each child will be coming to school with a mix of different emotions…excitement, nervousness, sadness, happiness, anxiousness and more! Being sensitive to this is so important, and we’ll be doing lots of fun activities that will help your child acclimate to Kindergarten, and start the year off right.  I am confident that by working together we will have a tremendous and successful year!

To make the transition to Kindergarten easier, I invite you and your child to join me at our Kindergarten Orientation!

On Wednesday, August 29th from 3:00 to 4:00, your child will have the opportunity to meet me and see our classroom with you.  Your child will meet some of our classmates and become familiar with Primrose and a few of our classroom routines.  I look forward to seeing you on that day, and to helping ease any apprehension your child may have about coming to Kindergarten.

Please take a few moments to read through our Kindergarten supply list at the end of this letter- there are some minor changes to the general Kindergarten list. On the first day of school, please send your child to school with a backpack, a folder, and a healthy snack and lunch (in separate, labeled bags, please!).  Please bring the other supplies, in a bag labeled with your child’s name, with you when you come to our Orientation day or your scheduled screening appointment.

Enjoy the rest of the summer, and I look forward to getting to know you and your child this year!  I hope to see you on our Orientation day, on Wednesday, August 29th.  Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me through email: cconnaughton@somersschools.org

    Fondly,

    Caroline Connaughton
