Welcome to Mrs. Collins' Kindergarten Class!
Letter to Parents:
Welcome to Kindergarten! I hope you are all enjoying your summer making memories and having fun together. I am busy preparing our room for our first day and wanted to take some time to introduce myself and review some logistics to make the transition smoother. My name is Allison Collins and I am honored to be your child’s Kindergarten teacher this year. We are going to have a fantastic year together and I cannot wait to meet you all. This is my second year at Primrose and I am so excited to continue to be part of the amazing community of Somers schools. This is my 20th year in the teaching field. I taught First grade for 10 years in Westchester and then became a mom of 2 children-a girl, and then a boy. I took some time off to stay home with them, continuing to tutor and take classes towards my Special Education Teaching Certification. For the past 8 years I have been working as a Special Education teacher for the 2-5 age population. I live nearby and grew up in the area and I am delighted to be planting roots and continuing my teaching career in Somers! Kindergarten is an exciting year full of growth and wonder. My goal is to help your child build confidence and independence in their academic, social and emotional skills. The transition to Kindergarten is a time of mixed emotions and together we can make it as smooth as possible. To help ease the transition I welcome you to come to our Kindergarten Orientation on Wednesday, August 28 from 3:15pm-4pm in our classroom, Room A8 During our orientation, you and your child will have the opportunity to meet me and other classmates. They will also familiarize themselves with our classroom. Please feel free to bring school supplies in a bag labeled with their name on this day as well. Please check the supply list on my webpage as it differs slightly from the school list. Alternately, you can bring their supplies to our Open House on the first night of school, or to your child’s individual screening time. The first three days of school will be HALF DAYS for Kindergarten students. Please check the site for your individual screening appointment and review the Kindergarten supply list, which is at the end of this letter. I look forward to meeting your child and getting to know them and you throughout the year. We will spend the beginning of the school year getting to know one another. I am sending a letter of welcome to your child as well and will be asking them to come to school with 2 pictures- one of themselves and one of them with their family. These pictures may be brought to the orientation along with the supplies. We will use these pictures to be made into books that will remain in our classroom throughout the year. Enjoy the remainder of your summer and I look forward to meeting you at our orientation on Wednesday, August 28!
Sincerely, Allison Collins Save the Date: Meet the Teacher Night Wednesday, September 4th at 7 pm.
Letter to Students:
Welcome to Kindergarten! My name is Mrs. Collins and I am going to be your Kindergarten teacher at Primrose Elementary School this year. I am so happy that you will be in our class and I cannot wait to meet you. Kindergarten is a special place where we will grow and learn together. We have another teacher in our classroom too named Mrs. Sardilli.
I would love to meet you and show you our classroom before school starts. I will be at school on Wednesday, August 29 from 3-4, in our classroom-Room A8. Come on by with a parent or special grownup! You can bring your school supplies with you that day too so that your backpack isn’t too heavy on the first day.
You are going to meet other friends too and we will all get to know each other. I have a special job for you before school starts. Can you bring in 2 photos-one of you and one of you with your family?
Our first day of school is Wednesday, September 5 and it will be a half day for you.
Enjoy the rest of your summer!
Your New Friend,
