Dear Second Grade Students and Parents,
I hope you have been having a wonderful summer! It's hard to believe that we're thinking about the new school year already. I wanted to take a moment to welcome you to second grade! I hope you are getting as excited for this upcoming school year as I am. I am looking forward to another school year filled with new faces and inquisitive minds. My goal for this year is to create a pleasant classroom environment with children who are respectful, cooperative and love to learn. I believe in fostering a positive, happy classroom community.
Additionally, during the school year, Ms. Cass and I will be working collaboratively in all curriculum areas. We are also lucky to have two wonderful teaching assistants who will be in the classroom at various times throughout the day. Working as a team, we will look at each student’s unique abilities and decide how best to meet his or her needs. We challenge students and set high standards for all. We hope this will allow the students more opportunities for differentiated instruction, flexible grouping, and learning with different modalities.
I look forward to establishing a partnership with you this year. You can help me by keeping the lines of communication open. If you have questions or comments, please feel free to contact me by sending a note to school with your child, or through e-mail. I will get back to you as soon as possible.
Please send your student to school every day with a backpack, snack, water bottle, lunch, and a homework folder. Parents and students, PLEASE remember to check the homework folders nightly!
In addition to the items on the second-grade school supply list, please consider sending in an additional folder and a pencil sharpener. Please reuse any school supplies in good condition from last year. We love to be “green” in this school! Be proud of reusing your scissors and pencil boxes year after year. This shows responsibility in taking care of your belongings and the environment.
I look forward to meeting you soon! Enjoy your remaining days of summer!
