8414.3 Student Conduct on School Buses

STUDENT CONDUCT ON SCHOOL BUSES

While the law requires the school district to furnish transportation, it does not relieve the parents of students from the responsibility of supervision until such time as the child boards the bus in the morning and after the child leaves the bus at the end of the school day.

Once a child boards a bus - and only at that time - does he become the responsibility of the school district. Such responsibility ends when the child is delivered to his/her regular bus stop at the close of the school day.

In view of the fact that a bus is an extension of the classroom, the Board requires students to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with established standards for classroom behavior. Bus drivers have immediate authority over students at all times that students are on his/her bus. Uniform disciplinary procedures shall be developed by the Superintendent of Schools with the advice of the Building Principals and transportation personnel.

Students who become a serious disciplinary problem on the school bus may have their riding privileges suspended by his/her Building Principal. In such cases, the parents of the children involved will be responsible for seeing that their child gets to and from school safely.
