    Dear Families,

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year!  A wonderful year lies ahead of your child.  We are an inclusive special education classroom.  This year we will have students in both kindergarten and second grade.  Our goal is to provide every student with the academic, social, and behavioral support to successfully and meaningfully integrate into their general education classrooms.  We strive to foster each child and their self-esteem, social skills, independence, and academic abilities. The success of our inclusive program is determinant on three important factors, communication between all team members and families, the support of our amazing teaching staff and service providers, and YOU!  We are really looking forward to a wonderfully successful year for our Kindergarten and Second Grade students.  Your child is about to begin an amazing journey in their education, and we are all so thankful to have the privilege to support them in this important time of learning and growth.

Some Information about our program this year:

Mrs. Cohen, Mrs. O'Shea, Mrs. Pallizetti and Mrs. Ronzoni, Mrs. Browne, and Mrs. Alsani are the teaching professionals who will be supporting our wonderful class this year.  They are very important members in assisting in the success of our program.  They will share responsibilities such as: small group/individual remediation, center-based learning, inclusion support, lunch/recess help and much much more.

    Our Class Partnerships this Year:

    Kindergarten- Mrs. Maliniak

Second Grade - Mrs. Stietzel, Mrs. Edwards

*** Please consult each teacher’s websites, the supplies listed below will be split between each of our classes.

In preparation for the school year, below is some helpful information that you will need to know:

    Supplies:

K-2 Supply Lists (please click link to access all grade level supply lists)

Your child will need the above supplies for the upcoming school year.  Please feel free to bring these supplies at our upcoming classroom visit...

These supplies will be shared between our classroom and your child's general education partner class.

In addition to your child's grade level supplies, please send in the following supplies for our classroom:

    - 1 pack crayola colored pencils - 12 ct.

    - 1 box crayola crayons - 24 ct.

    - 1 box crayola markers - 8 ct.

    - 1 large plastic supply box (approx 5" x 13")

    - 1 pack black low odor dry erase marker

    - 2 wide-ruled black and white marble notebooks

    - 1 pack of #2 pencils

Please be sure to label all items with your child’s name

    Communication:

Among the supplies, I will be designating one of your child’s notebooks as their “communication journal”.  The communication journal is used as a way to share any information.  The journal is written in almost every day.  It is used to highlight a wonderful event in your child’s day/night, or can be used to alert each other about areas of concern.  The journal will journey to and from school in your child’s backpack every day.  This form of communication has proven very helpful in the success of the children.  The teaching assistants and I may read/write in the journal.  This is used in addition to any phone calls or emails.  Communication is the very most important tool to ensure a positive experience for the children.

    Other Important Information:

    Snack/Lunch:

We will have snack each day.  Please pack a healthy snack and drink and alert me and your child's general education teacher to any food allergies your child might have.  The children will start school with 3 half days and will need snack (september 4, 5, 6).  For the first full days, Sept. 9 -12, kindergarteners should bring their lunch.  Kindergarteners may begin to purchase lunch from the cafeteria on Friday, September 13.

ALLERGY INFORMATION: Mrs. Maliniak, Mrs. Stietzel and Mrs. Edwards’ classes have severe NUT ALLERGIES, please pack your child with a NUT FREE snack.  Please consult the Information document for your child’s class, for further allergy information.
