Fun activities that can be done almost anywhere!

    Number Family Rummy

Take the face cards out of the deck. Deal six cards to each player. Place the rest of the cards face down in the center.

The goal is to make families of 3 cards that are related by addition or subtraction. For example 5, 5, and 10 because 5 + 5 = 10. Once the cards are dealt players should make fact families if they can and set them aside. If they don't have any they should draw a card from the pile and then discard a card from their hand. The first player to make 2 fact families is the winner.

    Double the Doubles

Take out the face cards from the deck. All of the cards are dealt out to the players. Players keep their cards in a pile face down in front of them.

Players take turns to turn over the top 2 cards in their pile and add the two values together, telling everyone the answer.

If a player has two cards of the same value, they double the answer, e.g. if a player has 6 and 6, these are added and then doubled: 6 + 6 = 12, double 12 is24.

The player with the highest answer is given all of the cards from that round. Each player keeps the cards they win in a separate pile.

The game ends when players run out of cards. The winner is the person who collects the most cards.

    Magic 20

Take out the face cards and the 10's. Deal 5 cards to each player. Put the rest aside. Each player puts his or her cards face up in front of them.

    Playing the game:

Player 1 tries to use some or all of the cards to create a sum of 20. If reaches 20 they say "Magic 20" and places used cards in a separate personal pile. Then draws new cards to replace the ones that were used. (At the start of each turn each player should always have 5 cards.)

If unable to create magic 20, their turn ends. On player 1's next turn they draw one new card and will try to make magic 20 again.

When all cards are used, players count their cards in their piles and subtract remaining cards in their hand. Player with the most cards wins.

Variation for older kids: Use more than one operation to get 20.
