    WELCOME TO THE FOOD SERVICES HOME PAGE

    We are dedicated to serving healthy, and appetizing meals to the students of Somers. In order to get the most out of the school day, a child needs to be  properly fueled.
    Breakfast is served every day. The price of  a full breakfast is $1.25.
    Lunch is served every full school day. It is not available on half days, or when there is an early dismissal due to bad weather.  The price of lunch is 2.75, some premium lunches at the High School are priced higher.  
    Every full lunch includes grains, lean protein, fruit, vegetables, and low fat, or fat free milk. Our menus feature whole grains, and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. We  purchase locally grown produce as much as possible.
    Federal regulations mandate that every student must select at least one serving of fruit or vegetables with every meal.
     All the snacks and beverages we offer  are approved for sale in schools by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, and are in compliance with Federal Smart Snacks Rules.
     
    Our menus are now interactive. You can see nutrition information, descriptions, pictures and special diet information. There is even a smartphone app that will allow you to access the information on the go!
    The site works best with Chrome. If you are having a problem printing the menu on one page, try switching browsers from Explorer to Chrome.
     
     Paying for Meals and Snacks
     
    Payment for cafeteria purchases may be made either in cash at the time of purchase, or by putting money into an account for your child before the purchases are made. You may send cash, or a check payable to the Somers School Lunch Fund, directly to your child's school. The payment should be clearly marked with your child's name and the words "Lunch Money". Depending on the procedure in each school, the money should either be given to the classroom teacher, or handed to a cashier in the cafeteria. Alternately, on-line payments may be made by establishing a payment account through www.My/schoolBucks.com My School Bucks will charge a processing fee of 1.95 per transaction.
     
    Charging Meals
    we recognize the fact that "things happen"; lunches or lunch money get left behind, parents get busy and forget to replenish the money in their children's accounts, all sorts of things can and do happen, that result in a child needing to charge a meal.
    Unfortunately the practice of allowing children to charge meals without restriction has become a serious problem. Some very large individual negative balances have been created, and we are not legally allowed to carry those balances.
    In an effort to curb what has become a major problem, the following restrictions will be implemented for 2015/2016 and beyond:
     
    Children are never allowed to buy snacks, drinks or other a la carte items without paying for them. Those items must either be paid for in cash, or charged  to a child's account that has money in it. A child will not be allowed to charge those items to an account with a negative, or zero balance.
    If you do not want your child to be able to use the money in their account to purchase snacks, contact Norma Zeller at (914) 248-8585 ext. 222, or nzeller@somersschools.org , and request that those purchases be blocked or limited. 
     
    Children will be allowed to purchase meals without payment, in emergencies.  A child will be allowed to charge up to $8.25 (3 lunches) without restrictions on what they may choose. This will result in their having a negative account balance which must be repaid. All students have an account regardless of whether a payment account has been set up for them in My School Bucks.
     
    After the charge limit of $8.25 is reached, an alternative meal consisting of a cheese sandwich, fruit, vegetables and milk will be offered to the student. These meals will also add $2.75 to the balance due. 
    As students approach the charge limit they will be warned that future purchases will be restricted. 
     
    If a family is experiencing hardships that make paying for meals difficult, they should contact Norma Zeller to make special arrangements as soon as possible. No one wants to embarrass, or deprive a child of food, and we will work with you.
     
      
    Free and Reduced Price Meal Information  Free or Reduced price(.25), meals are available to families who qualify for them.
    An application, and instructions for filling out the application are  available in the DOCUMENTS section of this page. All applications should be sent to Lisa Zareski, at the Business Office located in  Somers Intermediate School.
