• Mrs. Maliniak's Class - Parent Welcome Letter

    Primrose School

     August 2019

    Dear Kindergarten Family,

Welcome to Kindergarten!  A wonderful year lies ahead of your child.  My focus this year will be to build your child’s self-esteem, social skills, and independence, as well as promote his/her academic abilities.

Mrs. Maguire is the teaching assistant for our class and she will be an important person in your child’s life at school.  She will assist me in the classroom and will accompany the children to lunch and recess.

In preparation for school, your child will need:

    • a backpack
    • 2 two pocket folders (pockets on the bottom)
    • 1 half-inch or one inch binder
    • 4 small glue sticks
    • 1 4 oz. bottle of glue
    • 2 packs - 24 count or larger of Crayola crayons
    • 1 pack of thick Crayola markers: Classic Colors
    • 1 thick dry erase marker: black only (low odor)
    • 1 thin dry erase marker (black)
    • Child size headphones (no earbuds)
    • 1 package of baby wipes
    • 1 large box of tissues

*Label the following items with your child’s name:

backpack, both folders, binder, and headphones

*Send the labeled headphones in a gallon sized Ziploc which has your child’s name written on it.

*You may bring the supplies when you come for the August visit or your child’s screening in September.

When handing in supplies only give me one folder.  The children will use the other two-pocket folder each day to carry notes and completed work back and forth between school and home.  This Home/School folder should be sent in the backpack on the first day of school.  Place any notes you have for the office or me inside the folder.  Also please check and empty out your child’s folder every day.  Make sure the cover of the folder is labeled clearly with your child’s name.

We will have snack each day.  Please pack a healthy nut free snack and drink and alert me to any food allergies your child might have.  The children will start school with 3 half days and will need snack.  For the first full days, Sept. 9-12, kindergarteners should bring their lunch.  Kindergarteners may begin to purchase lunch from the cafeteria on Friday, September 13.

Somers School District is paperless and most notes and notices are posted on the website or sent electronically via email.  Please look closely at my website, you will find useful information on it.  The schedule for the kindergarten screening is posted there.  Please make note of your child's screening day and time.

Kindergarten Screening:  All kindergartners will be screened the beginning of September after the half days of school.  Your child’s screening day and time is posted on my website.  Please plan to bring your child back to school for their screening appointment.

August Visit:  Children may come and meet the teachers on

                       Aug. 28 from 3:15-4:00

Open House:  Wednesday, September 4 at 7:00

Please come and learn about your child’s day at Primrose.  It’s a wonderful opportunity to meet other parents, ask questions, and learn all about what we do in kindergarten.

It is going to be a wonderful year!  I look forward to working with both you and your child.

                                                                       Warmly,

                                                                  Mrs. Maliniak
