  • Six Words for Our Country

    "Now let's practice what we preach." To start the year, many SHS students took part in "Six Words for our Country." Using the six-word memoir model that students learned in SMS, students submitted six-word essays, based on this prompt, "Our U.S. Pledge of Allegiance states we are a nation that is “indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” As we begin a new year, what words can you offer your fellow citizens that might help us return to this ideal?   • Seshadri Coca Cola Scholar Regional Finalist

    Somers High School senior Nitin Seshadri has been named a Regional Finalist for the Coca Cola Scholars Program, moving to final round, which would include a $20,000 college scholarship. “Nitin was recently named our Salutatorian for the Class of 2021,” says Mark Bayer, principal of Somers High School. “He is an excellent student who has not only excelled in all of his studies, but also puts his talents to use in a variety of volunteer opportunities.

  • Dr. Blanch Serves Up Leadership Series

    Just as there are ingredients that make a dish delicious, there are elements that help school leaders manage challenges successfully. Putnam | Northern Westchester BOCES has launched a new series, Virtual Leadership Connections, Conversations and Cooking, during which participants from all levels of school leadership share insights on a range of issues, while also discussing (and in some cases preparing) a special featured dish. Our own Superintendent, Dr. Ray Blanch is the host of the series.

  • Science Research Scholar

    Congratulations to Sean Reichbach on being selected a top 300 Scholar in the 80th Regeneron Science Talent Search, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious science and mathematics competition for high school seniors. Sean's Science Research Project is entitled "Does the American Political System Harm United States Representative Democracy?". As part of this award, Sam will receive $2,000, and Somers High School will also receive $2,000 to use toward STEM-related activities.
