School may have been out over the summer, but our students were still meeting with teachers to engage in a variety of fun activities, such as a Medieval Fair, which was recently held at Primrose Elementary. The fair, and its tournament games, were inspired from Mrs. Fairvre's middle schools students' summer reading of, “The Robin Hood Stories.” After reading the book, older students were asked to choose a character and develop a project/tournament to share with younger Somers students.
Our Somers Middle School Chorus members participated in the High Note Festival at Lake Compounce on June 2. The Grade 6 Chorus earned an "Excellent" rating and both the Grade 7 and Grade 8 Chorus earned the highest honor of "Superior." Congratulations to all of our Chorus students on a job well done!
Somers Middle School held its 10th Annual Living History Day on Thursday, May 25. This event gives seventh grade students the opportunity to experience history on many different levels. There were reenactors from multiple wars, including the Revolutionary War, Civil War, World War II and more. Thank you to all of our volunteer actors that made this day an interactive, educational experience for our children.
On Saturday, June 3, Somers High School held a Science Fair for first-year science research students. The event hosted 205 students from 15 different districts across Northern Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess Counties. Students presented their intended research to 165 judges in 14 different categories. At the competition, 11 of 22 Somers students placed in their category!
