Parents' Turn to Learn at Tusker University
It was the parents’ turn to learn from the teachers at the first Tusker University event, held on February 24th. More than 120 parents attended the virtual workshop, a concept developed by the Somers Central School District’s Learning Office. “This idea came from our community,” says Director of Learning Kevin Guidotti. “We asked families how we can best support them and their child’s school life, and those discussions evolved into these learning sessions.”

Social Media Boot Camp, a part of Tusker University, gives parents a crash course on the most popular apps and what to watch for if their children using them. Presented by the Westchester County Police Department and Somers School Resource Officers, this workshop is packed with great tips.

Seeing Red in the Middle School
Walking the halls of Somers Middle School on a recent Wednesday and Thursday, you wouldn’t be blamed for ‘seeing red’. There was a lot of red. “We are wearing red today to show people that bullying isn’t ok,” says seventh-grader Fiona Sledzik. “We are starting conversations about speaking up and standing up for each other when people say things that aren’t kind.” Fiona is a member of the No Place for Hate Club, the club that organized Stomp Out Bullying Day.
